Law Enforcement, Utility Worker Uniforms Displayed
JACKSON, Miss. -- The Hinds County Sheriff's Department organized a fashion show Wednesday that was designed to keep imposters from sneaking into people's homes.
Authorities said that criminals are dressing up as police officers and utility workers in one of the latest crime trends. In an effort to educate the public about possible imposters, law enforcement officials and utility workers took center stage at the Jackson Medical Mall to model their uniforms for senior citizens
“Just to make sure they are aware of what we look like when we come to the door, so they're not apt to open the door for the wrong person, just because it's a dark uniform,” Jackson police Officer Lester Schommer said.
The Hinds County Sheriff's Department organized the fashion show to make senior citizens aware of what the real uniforms look like. “This is very dangerous because once a person has gained entry into your home, you can be susceptible to a home invasion or you could be a victim of a murder or any other type of abuse,” said Louann Jackson of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. “We're telling them, ‘Please don't open your door unless you know who's knocking on the other side.’”
