American Apparel, Inc. is closing its Fort Deposit plant, according to a news release from the Selma-based maker of military uniforms. The Fort Deposit operations will be consolidated with the Selma plant. According to the news release, "a reduction in opportunities in the military market" is the reason for the closure. About 175 jobs in Fort Deposit will be impacted. Those employees will be offered positions in Selma, as they become available, the release said. The Fort Deposit site will close May 31. According to a December Montgomery Advertiser article, American Apparel employs 1,300 people in Alabama. Original article posted on Montgomery Advertiser.
