Jamestown High School students dressed in bright blue scrubs and teal face masks eagerly gathered around an operating table at Jamestown Regional Medical Center Thursday afternoon to learn about surgical procedures.

According to Orin Kendall, surgical technologist at JRMC, the operating room is typically a closed-off place in a hospital. Because of this, Kendall and his colleagues were excited to show the rare site to enthusiastic students.

“It’s fun, a lot of people come in excited, and they like to learn,” he said.

This was only one of the six workshops JRMC hosted at its second annual Scrubs Camp Day, which was attended by 41 high school students.

Health and science students taking yearlong classes about the medical field are able to attend this event, said Deb Fischer, health and science careers teacher at JHS and registered nurse.
