Horizon Health nurses adopting new uniforms

The Horizon Health Network is planning to put an end to the kaleidoscope of uniforms worn by staff and has agreed with its nurses to switch to a standard uniform.

Margaret Melanson, a vice president at Horizon Health, says the network and the union representing the province’s registered nurses have agreed that nurses will start wearing black-and-white uniforms in January.

“Certainly many other provinces have had a change where registered nurses are returning to black and white and this obviously is pants and tops,” she says.

The health authority’s vice-president says the idea of changing the uniforms of its staff came from patients.

She says the health authority has received complaints that there are too many people wearing different coloured uniforms with no standard rules.
