Dark blue uniforms provide more safety

The St. Petersburg Police Department is rolling out a new look.

Officers will no longer wear green and white uniforms. Instead, they’re transitioning to a dark blue look, one Police Chief Anthony Holloway said is more in line with what surrounding law enforcement agencies wear.

They come at a cost of $218,000 from the city’s and department’s budget.

The uniforms haven’t been updated since 1958 when Chief Bud Purdy was in charge.

“He liked Michigan State. So then he decided we should go for their colors, so we went to green and white,” Chief Holloway said.
