| US: Dow Corning extends Deflexion to footwear |

Silicone-based technology specialist Dow Corning has launched its Deflexion impact protection textile into the footwear market, where it can provide comfort and cushioning in a thin and lightweight form, particularly when used to make insoles. "High plantar foot pressure is a significant factor in many forms of lower limb injury," said Andrew James, clinical director at ACE Feet in Motion, which joined the research to apply Deflexion to insoles. "Podiatrists are often asked to provide a means of reducing the pressures under the foot. Deflexion technology is, to date, the most efficient material I have used for this purpose." Deflexion shock absorbing textiles are already used in protective garments and equipment, including sailing gear by Henri Lloyd, the Scott Sports winter sports line, and in protective equipment made by Rukka for use by motorcycle riders.
