Uniform store garners support from community despite slower economic climate

When Kaley Haugen began filling out paperwork last year in September for her new business, The Uniform Unit of Dickinson, the economic outlook seemed more promising.

As conditions began to take a downturn with the energy industry’s slowdown, Haugen said she was “definitely apprehensive” about opening the business.

“It’s not what you hope to open up into,” Haugen said.

However, she said the business has managed to stay afloat thanks to the community’s interest.

The Uniform Unit, which open on March 2, carries uniforms for the energy and medical industries. The business shares a building with Embroidery Today, which often collaborates with The Uniform Unit when clients require a name or logo stitched into the uniforms they purchase.

The store carries scrubs, overalls, flame-retardant clothing and more.

Despite opening in the midst of an economic slowdown in the region, Haugen said she feels the business is getting the support it needs to be a viable part of the community. She said she even plans for The Uniform Unit to accommodate for more entities.
