CLINTON — The DeWitt County Sheriff's Department has purchased new uniforms for the county's correctional officers. Funds for the purchase came from fiscal year 2011 uniform equipment budget, county board chairman Melonie Tilley told public safety committee members at their recent meeting.

Tilley said the new uniforms were black, "and they're removing all the metal from them." Name tags and badges

will be embroidered or cloth.

"This is to eliminate having any kind of potential for missing metal to become a weapon," Tilley said.
