Air New Zealand has officially unveiled its long-anticipated new uniform collection; an iconic step forward in airline apparel that blends cultural storytelling with modern design excellence.
The collection reflects the airline’s deep-rooted pride in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and showcases a strong connection to the country’s cultural legacy through rich colors, bold prints, and premium craftsmanship.
Internationally acclaimed designer Emilia Wickstead led the design vision, partnering with tā moko artist Te Rangitu Netana to incorporate hand-painted, bespoke motifs that speak to New Zealand’s identity.
This launch marks a pivotal moment in Air New Zealand’s brand evolution. It brings national pride, cultural symbolism, and elevated aesthetics to the forefront of uniform design.
Set to be worn by over 6,000 staff members globally, these uniforms reinforce Air New Zealand’s long standing reputation for creativity and distinction in airline attire.
The collection includes The Fine Print – Dress, featuring the elegant kōwhai print that honors native flora, and The Collective Thread – Shirt, adorned with purapura whetū star motifs, crafted for all ground and cabin crew, reflecting the gender-neutral approach of the design.
A notable addition is the Ie Faitaga, a traditional garment being trialed by Pasifika team members. For pilots, the new look includes a sharp pinstripe suit with a kiwi feather lining. The kiwi feather lining symbolizes leadership, prestige, and New Zealand’s cultural identity, adding meaningful depth to the pilot uniform design.
“This isn’t just a new look—it’s a celebration of who we are,” said Greg Foran, CEO of Air New Zealand. “Our uniform has always been a symbol of identity. With this update, we’re honoring our people, culture, and values, while boldly moving forward.”
Designer Emilia Wickstead added, “This project was deeply personal. I wanted every piece to speak to the essence of Aotearoa, while empowering those who wear it. A great uniform tells a story and this one celebrates individuality, pride, and place.”
The uniforms will enter wearer trials across Air New Zealand in May 2025, with full implementation planned for 2026. As uniform businesses look to innovate, this rollout sets a compelling benchmark highlighting how storytelling, inclusivity, and premium design can come together in a globally recognized brand identity.
