Carrington Textiles, a global leader in workwear, flame-retardant, and defense fabric manufacturing, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by pledging exclusive support for the Better Cotton initiative across all of its cotton-containing products.
The announcement, made on World Cotton Day, October 7, 2024, highlights Carrington Textiles’ dedication to producing high-quality workwear fabrics that are responsibly sourced. Through this pledge, Carrington aims to advance sustainable cotton farming practices, promoting environmental well-being and supporting the livelihoods of farmers globally.
What is Better Cotton?
Better Cotton is an initiative focused on fostering sustainable cotton farming methods. It works to protect the environment, improve the well-being of farmers, and deliver high-quality cotton to consumers. In the 2019-2020 season, the initiative licensed over 2.4 million farmers from 23 countries, contributing to 23% of the world’s cotton production.
Better Cotton is sourced through a mass balance chain of custody model, which means that while the cotton cannot be directly traced to individual end products, the demand generated by Better Cotton purchases benefits farmers by supporting equivalent volumes of responsibly sourced cotton.
Benefits for Customers
For customers purchasing Carrington Textiles’ cotton-based fabrics, Better Cotton Credits (BCCUs) are generated. These credits can be claimed by registered companies on the Better Cotton Platform, enabling them to showcase the responsible sourcing of their fabric’s cotton through hang tags, labels, and other marketing materials.
Neil Davey, Managing Director of Carrington Textiles, expressed pride in the company’s sustainable efforts: “With 99% of fabrics in our flame-retardant, workwear, and defense lines containing cotton, this commitment marks a significant step in our journey towards sustainability. We’re excited to share this progress in our latest Sustainability Report, as we work to create positive, lasting impacts for our products and the planet.”
