Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) on August 3rd, announced its Chipotle Goods’ new line of apparel collection. It includes an apparel collection that was responsibly sourced by utilizing organic cotton.

CMG also announced its branded accessories that are exclusively available to Chipotle Rewards members. The collection will also feature Chipotle’s open-looped line of apparel that was dyed with upcycled avocado pits from its restaurants and branded unisex gear.

The profits from this collection will go towards supporting organizations that are focused on making fashion or farming more sustainable. 15 million Chipotle Rewards members will get first access to this charitable line through a special password shared via email.

Chipotle has always been an advocate for social responsibility by supporting organic cotton farmers through uniform purchases since 2012. It is one of the largest buyers of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) cotton in the U.S.

Given that Chipotle is also one of the largest restaurant purchasers of avocados in the world, they are now blending organic cotton and avocado pits to create a new fashionable line of apparel.

As Chipotle is left with over 300 million avocado pits per year in its restaurants, the company decided to upcycle these pits to create several natural avo dyed goods. This innovative dye is formed by simmering the pits in water. It is a sustainable plant-based dye that is ultimately used in the apparel and accessories of the brand.

Each unique piece of apparel from the avo dyed collection apparently requires 5 avocado pits. “We know people are looking to celebrate their passion for Chipotle, and we set out to create a line of products with the same thoughtfulness, care, and attention to detail that we use in our kitchens,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer. “With Chipotle Goods, our fans can get quality items that support sustainable agriculture and represent our mission of cultivating a better world.”

Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., simply known as Chipotle is one of the largest chains of fast-casual restaurants in the United States.
