COBMEX, a leading global company in uniform knitwear, is stepping up its support for aspiring designers at the George Brown School of Fashion.
The company is excited to announce the expansion of its scholarship program in its second year, growing from two awards to three. This move highlights COBMEX’s continued dedication to nurturing new talent and helping to shape the future of the uniform industry.
Last year, COBMEX introduced two successful scholarships: one for Innovation in Uniform Design and another for Sustainability in Uniform Apparel. Both will continue to reward students for their creativity and environmentally-conscious thinking.
Looking to offer even more opportunity, COBMEX is introducing a third, and highest, award: the COBMEX Excellence in Uniform Apparel Scholarship.
This new scholarship is specifically designed to celebrate the very best student in the class. It honors a student whose work demonstrates exceptional design skills and great professional potential, offering a larger award value to reflect this high level of achievement. To apply, students will submit an essay, giving them a chance to showcase their unique vision.
This announcement arrives on National Uniform Day, a time when the impact of uniforms across all industries is recognized. By expanding the program now, COBMEX reinforces its commitment to the next generation of designers who will be defining the look and function of tomorrow’s uniforms.
Jon Edberg, President & COO of COBMEX, emphasized the company’s vision, saying, “We view these scholarships as a direct investment in the future of our industry. The new Excellence scholarship is specifically designed to recognize the students who truly set themselves apart at the highest level. We want to encourage these talented individuals who will bring fresh skills and ideas to uniform design early in their careers.”
Pricila Neal, Senior Director of Design & Product at COBMEX and a George Brown alumna, noted the personal importance of the program, saying, “As a graduate myself, I know how much this kind of recognition means to a student. Uniform design is about more than just looking good—it’s about how the garment performs for the person wearing it. This is a great chance for students to explore that connection.”
Rosa Fracassa, Associate Dean at George Brown’s School of Fashion, praised the support: “COBMEX’s commitment to our students is outstanding. These scholarships not only provide crucial support but also affirm the skill and promise of our emerging designers. Their focus on innovation inspires our students and leaves a lasting impact on their education.”
Recipients for all three scholarships will be announced in spring 2026.
