Smith & Warren Celebrates 100 Years of American-Made Craftsmanship

This year, Smith & Warren, a leading manufacturer of badges for law enforcement and public safety agencies, is celebrating a major milestone, 100 years of operation. Led by the Galperin family since 1990, Smith & Warren has become a national leader in badge making, serving thousands of agencies.

Embracing Technology, Preserving Tradition

Upon joining Smith & Warren in 2000, Lee Galperin recognized the importance of establishing a strong foundation. The company invested in technology, including 3D modeling and laser die-making, to improve efficiency and quality while preserving its commitment to craftsmanship.

Meeting Evolving Customer Needs

Today’s public safety professionals expect high-quality badges that are precise, durable, and customizable. Smith & Warren works closely with departments to create unique designs that reflect their identity and values. AI supports behind-the-scenes tasks like data analysis and workflow management, but human designers drive the creative process.

Craftsmanship

Smith & Warren uses human designers to craft badge designs that are personal and meaningful to each department, rather than relying on AI. The process still starts and ends with human designers working closely with our customers,” Galperin said. AI helps behind the scenes, freeing up designers to focus on the creative aspects of their work.

A Deep Commitment

Smith & Warren’s commitment to American manufacturing sets it apart. The company believes that its US-based operations allow for tighter quality control, faster response times, and a deeper connection with customers.

“Manufacturing in the US gives us an edge because our customers know we’re fully committed to our work,” Galperin said.

As Smith & Warren looks to the future, it remains focused on building long-term relationships with public safety agencies and its network of dealers. The company is committed to continuing its tradition of craftsmanship and American-made quality. Galperin reflects on his own milestone this year, “I turn 50, and I feel like I’m just getting started. There’s still so much to do.”

With its 100th anniversary, Smith & Warren is proud of its legacy and excited for the next chapter in its history.
