This influx will grow the Space Force’s rank of uniformed guardians by 10% with 643 of them coming from the Army, 49 from the navy, and 18 are Marines.

Space Force poised for growth in the upcoming fiscal year

Additionally, 259 civilians have also been identified to join Pentagon’s newest division by 2022, constituted in 2019 by former president, Donald Trump, to safeguard America’s interests in outer space.

It’s by far the largest inter-service transfer into Space Force after 50 soldiers, sailors, and marines were moved as part of the beta test to see how effective the integration would be. The service members include officers and enlisted hailing from diverse career fields like space system operations, cyber operations, acquisition engineering, and various intelligence positions.

Vice Chief of Space Operations Gen. David Thompson in a recent release stated, “Successfully integrating the units, capabilities, and people from sister services into the Space Force is critical to our mission and was one of the driving forces in creating the new service.”

Clarifying the migration process, Space Force’s chief human capital officer, Patricia Mulachy said that about 50 officers chosen across services have already begun transitioning to identify and resolve potential problems arising from the transfers. The unit is also holding town hall sessions for civilians who will be in charge of addressing their queries.

“We are making every effort to ensure all future Guardians feel part of the team from the moment they are identified for transfer.” Mulacy further added in the press release.

The Space Force said all transferring troops were volunteers. From the incoming batch, 215 officers are currently serving in Army or Navy who were slated to shift along with 259 civilians. However, unlike civilians, the troops had the option to remain in their services if they weren’t interested in being Guardians.

The road ahead for Space Force

Over 5200 airmen from Air Force alone have opted to join the Space Force. Several new recruits upon their induction into the military have gone on to directly join the new service too.

As Pentagon’s newest division continues to see unprecedented growth, the service is currently seeking more space-related missions and get more volunteering troops from other uniformed services to become proud Guardians of the Space Force.
