Cameras attached to police uniforms help in criminal prosecution

The VIEVU body-worn camera attached to the uniform of Watkinsville Sgt. Lopatin Slaymaker is not as implausibly miniscule as the high-tech gadgets harnessed by James Bond, but the pager-sized device will certainly aid in the prosecution of criminals.

The City of Watkinsville has purchased a bulk of clip-on video cameras that will secure the safety of law enforcement and prove valuable in criminal prosecution.

Worn by each police officer, the high-resolution camera attaches to the front of a uniform and will be turned on when responding to a call.

Police Chief Lee O’Dillon said clip-on cameras have the advantage of transport over similar cameras equipped in patrol cars.
