Every so often, McDonald’s likes to very publicly pat itself on the back for its own green-ness.

After all, many of its best customers — particularly Millennials — totally dig green.

The fast-food giant might not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking of all things green. But here are three examples from its 2014 Global “Best of Green” report that were highlighted on Tuesday:

– From uniforms to mattresses.   In the U.K., McDonald’s has launched an unusual program for recycling employee uniforms.  Uniforms will be collected annually by textile recyclers to be recycled or shredded and used as mattress stuffing.

– Low-flow urinals.  In India, McDonald’s has installed so-called low-flow urinals in 70 McDonald’s restaurants that save an estimated 1.7 million gallons of water annually.

– Recycling manual.   McDonald’s Pacific Sierra region created a waste recycling manual piloted at 11 San Francisco Bay Area restaurants resulting in an estimated diversion of 70 cubic yards of waste from landfills each week.

Now, for some real energy savings, how about if someone dims the lights on all of those Golden Arches just a bit?
