Siblings launch clothing line to benefit polar bears

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Ever since they were little, Detroit Lakes siblings Greta and Carly Fritz have been in love with polar bears. As they grew older, they gradually became aware of global warming and its harmful effect upon the big white bears’ arctic habitat.

So rather than just waiting for the bears’ situation to continue to worsen, they decided to do something about it. Taking a page out of the playbook of their father, Lakeshirts co-founder Mark Fritz, they developed a clothing line that would both raise money to help the polar bears, and bring awareness to their situation.

“A little over a year ago, we started talking about it with our dad,” said Greta, a freshman at the College of St. Benedict in St,. Joseph, Minn. “We’ve loved polar bears since we were kids. We were really big advocates for (doing something about) climate change, we’ve always been interested in that and we were just talking about it one day with our dad and he said, ‘Why not do something about it?'”
