Weld Sheriff’s Office unveils new, more modern uniforms

Residents may have noticed one of Weld County’s law enforcement agencies breaking in its new look this week.

On Monday, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office dropped the old brown and khaki uniform for a more modern outfit featuring a silver shirt with black pants. The new uniforms also boast a new patch and logo featuring a simplified design. This is the first time the agency has changed its uniforms in 18 years.

Instead of the old patch — which was adopted following a design contest with local schools shortly after former Weld County Sheriff John Cooke first took office — the new patch and logo features a more traditional seven-point law enforcement star under the word “sheriff” in capital letters.

“The new design emphasizes simplicity and improved readability for quick identification of sheriff’s deputies, as well as bringing a new look to the sheriff’s office,” said Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams. “It’s not unusual for a sheriff or a police chief to make a uniform change when they take office. We set out to design a logo people would easily identify and one that would demonstrate who we are and what we do. I think the patch accomplishes that goal.”
