Wednesday marked the official day that all Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies will be wearing a new uniform, designed to be more comfortable for the daily physical demands of the job.
The new Class B uniform features a lighter material and different colors – tan and olive green, as compared to the former uniform that was tan and navy blue.
Deputies described the new design as more functional than the former uniform, which was a polyester-blend material with the tactical vest worn on the inside of the shirt – something many deputies complained was uncomfortable in warmer temperatures. The new uniform also comes with a tactical vest that is worn on the outside of the shirt.
The new uniforms cost approximately $700 per deputy. The former tan and blue uniform will still be in use as a Class A uniform, to be worn at special functions only.
