Uniform Market News recently released its 2012 UNIVATOR Awards honoring seven companies for innovative uniform programs, products and strategies. Categories included “Uniform Program Innovations,” “Product Innovations” and “Eco-friendly Product Innovations.” TRSA members Cintas Corp., Mason, OH, and Century Place Inc., Charlotte, NC, were among the businesses honored.

Cintas received recognition in the Uniform Program Innovations category for its redesigned garment offerings at McDonald’s Canada. Designed by Fourmy, a division of Cintas based in Toronto, the McDonald’s uniforms will be worn by the brand’s 80,000 Canadian employees. Managers and crew members will wear black uniforms made from recycled fabrics. Reflective piping on the garments was designed to mimic the restaurant’s stainless steel, and the uniforms will feature bright golden arches as well. One item of particular interest is the wedge polo shirt, which features narrow wedges of color that can be added, changed or removed – allowing employees to change their colors based on position, preference or restaurant theme.

Century Place was honored in the “Eco-friendly Product Innovations” category for the company’s Eco-friendly Collection of T-shirts and polos. The line uses 100% post-consumer recycled PET containers. Each shirt keeps the equivalent of roughly 32 water bottles out of landfills. “This is more than just another line for me,” said Mike Carter, president of Century Place, to Uniform Market News. “I really believe in this. It’s the first time I’ve been able to offer something that truly helps our environment. The more we do, the more we can make a difference.”
