Tulare County firefighters have a uniform allowance, as do county deputies and county employees in other jobs, including public health and technical fields.

On Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors will decide whether to add investigators for the District Attorney’s Office to that list.

Under the proposal, the investigators would for the first time have a Class-B uniform.

“As a DA investigator, our standard uniform is business attire,” usually a dress shirt, slacks and possibly a sports coat for men and professional attire for women, said Mark Lyon, a criminal investigator for the DA’s investigative unit and vice president of the group’s collective bargaining uniform.

Essentially, they want a $250 annual stipend for each of the division’s investigators to cover the costs of a single pair of durable beige pants, a belt and a polo-style shirt — the color of which has yet to be decided — with the DA’s logo on it, said Lyon, adding that the clothing would be purchased from uniform shops rather than department stores.
