A Chinese state-owned company, Poly Technologies has helped the Uganda Police Force to set its own garments manufacturing factory with capacity to produce 100 police uniforms daily.

The factory was launched last week by Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni with a call to the workers in the factory, who will be mainly wives of Police Officers, to take care of the machines in factory.

Museveni expressed his pleasure over the newly established Police garments factory saying the facility will go a long way in reducing the cost of Police uniforms.

The factory can be programed to expand to 200 uniforms per day in the near future.

“The factory has employed women who would otherwise be unemployed. This is a good start of a long journey. I am also happy to note that the facility will reduce the cost of uniforms from U$27 to U$ 24 each,” Museveni said.

He thanked the Chinese for not only trading with Uganda but also for assisting Africa.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, thanked the President for launching the factory. He said that they are building an ideologically focused Police Force that is committed and quite productive. He also revealed that they are co-operating with the regional Police Forces to ensure a peaceful and secure region.

The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, saluted President Museveni for his strategic leadership. He noted that the factory was a historical achievement because it is the first one of its kind in the country.

He revealed that plans are under-way to expand supply of uniforms to other institutions and to the Police Forces in neighbouring countries.

He reported that 96 machines were donated by Poly-Technologies, a Chinese Government company that has established the facility.

The Chinese Charge d’Affaires to Uganda, Li Quanghua, said that the brotherly relations between Uganda and the People’s Republic of China have proved the test of time.  He commended the Uganda Police upon its 100 years anniversary of existence.
