Those of a certain age might remember a time when air travel brought more pleasure than pain.
Keith Lovegrove certainly does.
The son of a British aircraft engineer, Lovegrove jetted around the world in an era when the skies really were friendly. He takes a nostalgic look at those days in his book Airline: Style at 30,000 Feet (Lawrence King Publishing, $14.95), which examines the design and culture of early commercial airlines. The book, in stores today, is a reprise of a hardcover version published in 2000.
I interviewed Lovegrove when the original book came out. Here are some excerpts from our chat.
