The original Carhartt imprint was established in 1889 by Detroit, MI-born businessman Hamilton Carhartt. The brand began as a staple manufacturer of workwear for railroad workers, offering jackets, coats, overalls, coveralls, vests, shirts, jeans, dungarees as well as fire resistant clothing. In 1994, a distribution network for Carhartt was set up in Europe — dubbed Work In Progress Textilhandels GmbH — introducing a selection of the entity’s classic products from the original workwear collection.
