With the help of Fechheimer Brothers Company, the United States Army will bring back a classic World War ll-era uniform known as “the pinks and greens.

The Blue Ash, Ohio-based uniform manufacturing company helped redesign the 1940s iconic look and the Army plans on debuting the new uniforms in spring 2020, replacing the blue day-to-day service uniform that was issued in 2010.

Feccheimer has been in business since 1842, but design director Mark Billott said the projected was a special challenge to the company that took more than 75 redesigns to get the uniform right.

“It means a lot to support the troops,” Billott said. “For me, the challenge was to make sure we got it right.”

Sgt. Maj. Daniel Dailey said the resigned was necessary to distinguish members of the Army from other military branches and law enforcement with similar blue and white uniforms.

“I was dressed almost like a Chicago police officer,” Dailey said. “We weren’t getting recognized as soldiers in the eyes of the greater American public.”

Senior vice president of Feccheimer Brothers, Fred Heldman, said the Army approached his company back in 2017 about working on a redesign.

“We were very proud to be part of that project,” Heldman, whose father served in WWII, said. “We think of ourselves as serving those who serve, so there’s a sense of pride.”

Despite the prototypes being designed in Blue Ash, the uniforms will be manufactured at Fechheimer Brothers’ manufacturing center in Hogenville, Kentucky.
