According to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Service, the Marine Corps are considering making changes to its maternity uniforms that include adding adjustable tabs for the maternity shirt as well as adding a nursing shirt for the utility uniform.

The new tabs would allow Marines who are pregnant to adjust the sizing of the uniform during the different stages of pregnancy. The blouse for the Marine utility uniform currently has adjustable tabs.

The Corps is currently in the process of trying to certify the commercial nursing undershirt that is used with the utility uniform.

According to the briefing, the Marine Corps are also interested in adding a new short and long sleeve maternity shirt, but are currently waiting on the results of a similar product that the Air Force introduced before proceeding.

Capt. Joseph Butterfield, a Marine spokesman, stated the Corps are expected to release changes to its uniform policy in the next few weeks. That also includes a decision on whether umbrellas will be permitted for male Marines to carry while in uniform.
