Malaysian athletes will be “showing off their stripes” and roaring proud in Glasgow, Scotland on July 23 at the XXI Commonwealth Games in their Melinda Looi -designed formal and sports attire.

Melinda was engaged to design the team uniform by The Youth and Sports Ministry of Malaysia.

“I refer to our athletes as ‘Malaysian Heroes’. They are modern-day warriors; dedicated individuals who train hard every day so that they can represent our country on the global arena. I am impressed by their hard work and discipline, and also the pressure they overcome on a daily basis. They made [sic] me feel so proud to be Malaysian and so honoured to dress them in my creations,” Melinda said.

The collection is inspired by tigers, the national animal of Malaysia. The unique characteristics of this feline muse are translated into two bold and vibrant prints which will run across the sports kits as well as the formal March Pass uniforms.

“Tigers are majestic, strong and powerful creatures. I want our athletes to feel that way when they wear their kit,” Melinda said.

The kit will also be worn at the 2014 Asian Games (XXII Asiad), scheduled to take place in Incheon, South Korea from September 19 to October 4 this year.
