When Drummond Uniform Service customers asked about high-quality work jackets, owner Rick Drummond tried to fill the order.

But as a small business, Drummond ran into problems maintaining a supply of jackets that met customer standards. So he compiled the suggestions and requests from customers and designed a jacket to fit their needs. Then Drummond found a company to make it.

The hooded work jacket now is the introductory product for Dockyard Apparel. The new company is based in Canton along with Drummond Uniform Service.

Drummond said he worked with people in trades to create a high-quality, durable and comfortable coat that can withstand the elements. It’s made from heavy duty cotton, water resistant and triple stitched at major stress points. It also has a brass zipper, pleated elbows and bi-swing action back design for better range of motion.

Pockets are a big factor, Drummond said. There are three over-sized interior pockets and the coat is “conceal-carry friendly.”

“Our goal was to overbuild this jacket,” Drummond explained in a press release announcing the product and business. “We wanted to make sure it works as hard as the people who wear it.”

Coats are priced at $89.99. Each can be personalized on the front and embroidered with a company logo on the back. The coats are manufactured in Vietnam, while embroidery work is done in Canton. Drummond said orders can be turned around in five to seven days.

Drummond said that with every jacket sold Dockyard Apparel makes a donation to America’s VetDogs, which trains places service dogs with veterans, active-duty service members and first responders with disabilities to help them regain self reliance.
