All Navy ship crews along the East and West Coasts are set to be equipped with the two-piece flame-retardant uniform, identified by the Navy as the “primary at-sea” option, by the coming year, according to official sources.

Known as the 2-Piece Organizational Clothing uniform (2POC), this Navy-created attire is designed to be versatile for various working conditions, including deployment on surface ships, submarines, and flight decks. The uniform is also approved for use during commutes and off-base activities.

Distribution of the 2POC commenced in December 2022, starting with U.S. Fleet Forces units, including the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford. Currently, 50% of East Coast ships have received the 2POC, with plans to outfit all East Coast ships by the spring of 2024, according to Lt. Cmdr. Mary Sanford, a spokeswoman for Fleet Forces Command. Distribution prioritization is based on lists provided by each type commander, considering the operational and maintenance schedules of each unit.

On the West Coast, nearly half of all orders for the uniform have been fulfilled, and U.S. Pacific Fleet expects all West Coast ships to be equipped with the 2POC by the fall of 2024. Similar to the East Coast distribution, the process on the West Coast follows priority lists from type commanders, factoring in operational and maintenance schedules of each unit.
