Nike unveiled the new 2023 Women’s national team collection that the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team will wear during the 2023 World cup action.
The new kits boast the company’s latest textile innovations and feature tailored designs for women, including shorts with leak protection for athletes during their menstrual cycles.
According to a news release from the company, the primary focus in designing the kits was to help athletes stay comfortable, cool, and move more freely. The US National Team Collection draws inspiration from the abstract expressionist art movement, with the blue-and-white home jerseys splattered with a drip-paint technique resembling a constellation of dots. The collection marks the first time in 11 years that the uniform will feature a print.
The away jerseys come with sleeve cuffs that feature bespoke stars and stripes graphic print, and the neckline’s red blades are formed to look like the tips of stars. Nike said that the nod to the abstract expressionist art period acknowledges what the USA team has done for women’s football.
Nike’s Leak Protection: Period innovation will be included in the athletes’ base layer, the Nike Pro Short. The technology in the absorbent liner helps to protect against period leaks, making it easier for athletes to compete with confidence during their menstrual cycles.
In addition to the US National Team Collection, Nike is also behind the Canada National Team Collection. The away kit sports the country’s traditional red and white, while the red and black home kit features an evolution of the country’s iconic geometric maple leaf on the crest.
