Starting in July, soldiers stationed in Hawaii and at Fort Benning, Georgia will be able to purchase the Army’s Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform at their local military clothing store

Although the IHWCU is not a required clothing item, it is still an option for soldiers in hot climates.

Col. Stephen Thomas, project manager, soldier protection and individual equipment at Program Executive Office-Soldier told Army Times states that the Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform shares the same Operational Camouflage Pattern as the current ACU and is within the same $100 price range for the set, depending on the size.

The IHCWU has no breast pockets, which is the most notable change in the newest uniform.

But the lighter, more comfortable, and more breathable uniform helps keep soldiers cool with better airflow and material made out of 57 percent nylon and a 43 percent cotton blend that fully dries within 60 minutes.
