The New 3M Yarn

3M has recently come up with an all-new 3M- Specified Water Repellent Griege Yarn, which has joined their other fabric-based products such as the 3M Thinsulate Insulation and Scotchgard Protector. This yarn is durable and helps manage moisture retention which would help the manufacturers to produce water-repellent activewear and fly knit shoes.

What is 3M’s new yarn?

3M- Specified Water Repellent Griege Yarn is pre-processed yarn with Scotchgard protector to create a strong repellent yarn. It brings greater efficiency to fabric manufacturing and dyeing processes compared to the padding on repellent.

According to Senior Application Engineer Robert Polik, “With this new yarn, we will be helping mills get through common challenges they go through with respect to discrepant treatment- to name a few, spending a large amount of time and money in creating and finding recipes for formulas for each fabric.”

“Since the output produced differed from batch to batch, the mills kept incurring unstable output. However, our new and improved yarn solves this problem by making the process easy and also providing better productivity to fabric manufacturing.”, he adds

The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists and the International Organization for Standardization tested the all-new 3M-Specified Water Repellent Greige Yarn and gave the verdict that the yarn received the highest possible rating for spray-testing, quick drying, and durability. It allows mills to design and develop moisture-managing fabric, stable DWR textiles, and highly advanced water repellant knits. Various companies can also make use of this to create a line of water repellants, quick drying active wear, ingenious outdoor equipment, and water repellant fly-knit footwear.

Polik excitedly mentioned that they are happy to bring their new product onto the market. He believes that this solution will be the key to next-generation textiles and for global brands to create activewear and outdoor equipment in the next-generation format.
